Information for Students
Auditions will be held in early December at Theatre in Rehearsal room (upstairs, backstage), you will be given a time to attend. Practices will commence in February on Thursday nights 5 to 7pm at Uniting Church Hall, The Terrace. Students must be at least 11 years of age as of the first of January (siblings of current students can be 10 years at committee's discretion). Students must be willing to commit to:
- 10 months of hard work and fun
- Undertaking an audition
- Weekly practices (more frequently as production approaches)
- Listening to and taking direction from the Director and her helpers.
- Having a sense of adventure
- Wearing costumes and make-up as required
- Working as a team with your fellow actors, director and helpers
Attendance at camp is compulsory as it provides students with an opportunity to get to know each other. To work with the director on the script and generally have the opportunity to begin the team work that is necessary to make a great production.
Information for Parents
All Families are expected to be represented at the AGM where the committee for the year is voted in and the fees for the year are set. This meeting also provides an opportunity for any questions about the expectations of the year ahead.
Youth Theatre is a not for profit organisation, which relies on parent support through involvement on the committee, providing some form of corporate sponsorship or money through fees and in kind.
We expect that all families pay any required fees as requested. If the form of payment requested is difficult you may speak to the Treasurer to set up a payment plan.
Fees (approx $300) received go towards Camp, a DVD of the production, a t-shirt, costume deposit, hall hire fees, hire of rehearsal room at theatre, hire of theatre for production week, costs of painting and making all sets and props, certificates and cast photos, end of year cast party, make-up, honorariums for the Director, Musical Director, Costume Designer and Make-up artist.Gifts are also purchased for the many support personnel (giving up work) that help throughout the year and during production week.
We expect parents to support the direction of the director and to encourage your child/children to commit fully to the weekly practices (more frequent towards the end of the year).
At the end of the year we expect all parents to help at Bump in (bringing in sets and props and setting up theatre for production) and Bump out. We also need parents to help backstage, make-up, dressing rooms, ironing costumes, afternoon tea, setting up and packing up after cast party.
